being a grandkid…

This past weekend, I made a decision that seemed counter-intuitive to much of what I have been told to do my entire life. As long as I can remember, I have fought with great energy to “grow up.” When I was a kid, I couldn’t wait to order off the adults menu at the earliest possible opportunity. One year, I dressed as a businessman for Halloween. I got my license at 6:00am on my 16th birthday. All of this and more countless things to “grow up.”

Well, this weekend, I made a decision to take a trip to South Daytona and sit in my grandparents living room and just rest in the idea of “being” a grandKID. Kinda freeing.

Maybe “growing up” isn’t your thing…maybe you are trying to “stay young”…or “fit in”…or “succeed,” All I know, and I don’t know much, is that I probably could have gone my entire life “growing up” and there would have been nothing wrong with that…except I wouldn’t feel this freedom. I’m glad I took the risk to “be young” with my grandparents.

So, what’s your freedom story? How have you found life in your pursuits?
